Gunung Stong Expedition
After our surgery end of posting exam, we had a plan to go to hiking Gunung Stong in Dabong, Kelantan. 17 of us,going there. Hadi was our mastermind, Wadie as our ranger,Mukhlis as our head of chef, Muhyidin as logistic manager,Dzul incharge of safety,Rosdi and Aidy as paramedic, others were Hazwan, Saifulhaziq, Dol,Saperi, Fadli, Faris, Taufiq,Adam, Faizzin, and me myself. This time, we decided to travel by train since its a budget plan. The plan was going there by train on 8.30pm on 20 february from KL sentral, reach Dabong train station by 7.30a.m the next morning, going up the hill at 9.00,spend a night there and hv a barbeque before get down the next evening and take a 9.00pm train back to KL.we should be reaching Klang by 9.00a.m on monday because we had CRP briefing. a simple plan for our short holiday,=)
Friday 20 February 2009
After friday prayer, we finish packing up our bags and get ready to go to KL sentral. I traveled in Dol's car together with Hadi and Taufiq. We managed to avoid the massive traffic jam before it peaks hour and reach KL sentral by 4.30p.m and Dol have to go to UM to park his car.So, we have some time to hang around KL sentral. At 7.00p.m everybody already there and were waiting for prayer and have our dinner before boarding on 8.15p.m.After settling our bags and ourselves, the train leaving KL sentral to Gemas, a transit station before it changed it heads to east coast. After a while, it was so boring in the train so we spend our time chit-chatting and wondering around in the train.
Saturday 21 February 2009
We arrived at Gemas Station at 12.30a.m. we went out of the train and tried the delicious Gemas nasi lemak before continuing our journey. At first,it was hard to sleep in the train, it was because the train moves frequently. However, somehow, we managed to have a short sleep.Around 5.30a.m we woke up and the train almost reaching kelantan, we had our subuh prayer and enjoy the scenery as the morning starts to shines. At 7.45a.m, we arrived at Dabong train station, took some picture before continued our journey to wadie's house. There, we had some breakfast, and changed our clothes before get ready to hiking. After a short briefing, we started our hiking. It was so calm to be with the nature. As we crossed the below waterfall, our souls jumps to joy and we were eager to climb up to Jelawang camp. During our journey, we really enjoyed the scenery we had there. It was so beautiful and natural. The breeze were refreshing and there were alot of rare insects and flowers that we seen.Later, the track become more harder and steep. we had to rest for a while several times in our journey. Later, about 11.30a.m, we reach baha camp. It was a relief to all of us. After we get to our campsite, were set up our tents and kitchen. After a break for a while, we started to cook our lunch and later, we going to waterfall!! The water was blue, cold and refreshing! we really enjoyed our evening there. Some of us even tried to slide down the waterfall. it was exciting and hillarious. One of our friends only managed to climb the waterfall to slide down after 16 tries!Late in the evening, it was raining for a while and it quite a problem for us since it hards to find woods for our campfire and cooking. In the night, after prayer, we started to barbeque. That night, we sat around the fire, ate and chit-chatting among ourselves. After our dinner, we followed fadhli who wants to fishing at the waterfall and he managed to catch a fish.by 11.00p.m we went back to our campsite and Dzul announced the duty rooster to keep the fire up all night. He also gave us a salt to put around our tents to prevent incoming insects and then, everybody goes to sleep until their duty came up.
I woke up at 4.00a.m in the morning, I only see darkness around me and there was nobody was keeping up the fire. I thought everybody went to sleep and nobody keeps it up, so i joined them too.at 6.00a.m i woke up for subuh prayer. That morning, when i went down to take wudhuk, i accidently hit branch of tree and luckily it escaped from going through my eye. What i got is a superficial bruise across my left eye. It was painful at first.at 6.45a.m we went to jelawang waterfall to see sunrise. It was a magnificent scenery we have there as there were a layer of white clouds below us.We really enjoy the sunrise scenery that morning. After that, we went back to our camp and prepared our breakfast, a maggi!. That morning we found up nobody keeping the fire up last night because everybody was too tired to wake up. Luckily there was no incident happened. After breakfast, some of us went for some adventure in the jelawang jungle before all of us went to waterfall again. we played until afternoon when we went back for lunch and started to pack up our tents and bags.At 3.30p.m, we went down the mountain. This time, it was more trickier than the day before because the track was slippery because of the rain the day before. However, we managed to reach down without any incidents.Later, we went back to Wadie's house to have our dinner before boarding train back to KL at 9.00p.m.In the train, everybody fell asleep fastly because of the tiring day.
Monday 22 February 2009
Monday 22 February 2009
We reached KL sentral by 7.45a.m and we had to rush to get back to Klang as the briefing starts at 9.00 p.m. However, sometimes there were something that would not going to keep up with your plan. Dol's car was blocked by other car and the owner of the car who left the telephone no on the dashboard neverpick up the phone. Later, only at 10.00a.m we managed to get the car and reached Klang by 11.00p.m. We were caught red-handed by Sanjay Rampal for not attending the morning briefing and he let us go with a warning. It was a very tiring day and after the briefing end, all of us finally had a good sleeps.

Surgery End of Posting Exam
Hi again!!! Hmm..i'm been busy for the past 3 weeks, and even didn't hv time to write new entry. I thinking about writing several post this time. Firstly i want to write about Surgery end of posting examination i had on 16&17 February 2009. On 16 was written examination and on 17 was my long case examination.
Through our clinical posting, only surgery posting will have a long case in our end of posting exam. Medicine and peads will have shortcase exam and for O&G and Primary care medicine don't have any of it. In the long case examination, we will be given an hour to clerk and do examination on a patient before we present the case to the examiner.
That morning, the coordinator was Mr Tai, and he called up our names and patients bed.Only god know how the atmosphere that morning. Everyone was restless and wandering what case and what kind of patients that we will have.
I was given patient on bed 46, a 80 years old patient. That day, it was so challenging because i have to drill all the information in 1 hour. At first, everything that patients said did not making any sense to me, maybe due to the nervousness and i have to race with time. Later, i calm down and retracing my steps and tried to lead my case through what my patient complained and i finally able to figured out his case. After that, everything goes smoothly from completing the history, physical examination, provisonal diagnosis and the investigation.
when the lecturer came, i was a bit calm since i'm able to prepare my case. He did asks a lot of questions, ask me to do a physical examination, and drilled through me. It was my very long 30minutes and through every minutes goes by, i hope he stops asking questions. What a felief when he asked to called my friends to be examined.
After the examination, for me, the time i had spent with my patients in the surgery wards are the most precious time for us, medical students.I'll really appreciate the WR. For your information, my group surgery posting was the most busy compared to other group that already had the surgery posting. We had total more than 20 wards round + tutorials, and every ward round, we would have at least 1 case and at most 3/4 of the ward(40patients). Thanks to As.Prof. George Lee, Dr. KL Ng, Dr. Khaidir, Mr Soma, Dr Shanggar, Dr Yoong, Dr Faizal and Dr Micheal for the 8weeks we spends with them. Not forgetting the nurse and staff of ward 3A,ward 4A and Operation room of HTAR. After this, i'm going for Medicine posting again after 1 month of Community Residency programme.
